Promoting Energy Efficiency & Equipment Protection in Data Centers

As our world becomes increasingly digital, the demand for data processing, storage, and connectivity continues to surge. This drives the rapid expansion of data centers across the globe. These Data Centers form the backbone of our modern digital infrastructure, powering everything from cloud computing to streaming services. However, this growth also brings new challenges, particularly in energy consumption and equipment reliability. That’s where Apex steps in. With cutting-edge solutions designed to enhance energy efficiency and equipment protection in data centers, Apex is helping operate smarter, greener, and more reliably than ever before.

Flow & BTU Meters

Flow and BTU meters are critical tools in data centers for effectively measuring and monitoring the heat generated by IT equipment and the heat removed by cooling systems. By providing accurate data on thermal performance, these meters help identify inefficiencies in cooling infrastructure, allowing for targeted optimizations that reduce energy consumption and operational costs. They support compliance with increasingly stringent energy regulations and enable precise cost allocation based on actual cooling usage. Additionally, real-time thermal insights aid in capacity planning, ensuring that the data center is prepared for future expansions without compromising performance or efficiency.

The ONICON FT-3500 Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Meter is able to provide these key benefits to data centers by delivering accurate and reliable flow measurements of liquids used in cooling systems. It features an insertion design that allows for easy installation and maintenance without disrupting operations or sacrificing equipment protection. The FT-3500 supports real-time monitoring of cooling performances so your team can prevent any potential hazards. This unit also supports a thermal energy option, allowing it to become a complete thermal energy measurement system that provides, not only accurate flow measurements, but also energy and temperature data!

Air Flow Stations, Control Dampers & Louvers

Maintaining optimal operating temperatures is extremely important to data centers. If temperatures are not properly regulated, issues such as:

  • High energy costs
  • Reduced performances
  • Accelerated equipment repairs or replacements
  • Equipment overheating
  • And even outages and failures

However, by measuring hot and cooling airflow and having the ability to control airflow, you can reduce or eliminate these issues.

Air Monitor Air Flow Stations and the DCAS (Data Center Aisle Sentry) are unrivaled in their ability to accurately measure flow in even the most challenging duct configurations. This allows you to track airflow patterns and identify problem areas and areas for improvement. These Stations can be combined with Arrow United Control Dampers and Louvers to allow you to have complete control over airflow. Measure your airflow using the Air Monitor Stations, and adjust dampers and louvers to control the volume of air entering or exiting. This allows you to effectively direct airflow to cool equipment and expel heat. Arrow United Dampers and Louvers also work in combination with your fire suppression system. They have the ability to automatically close in response to a potential fire.

Pressure and Temperature Transmitters

Pressure and Temperature Transmitters are some of the most crucial equipment that can be found in data centers. They allow you to monitor and control cooling systems, fire suppression systems, refrigeration lines, and overall server room conditions. There are several different pieces of equipment that you’ll typically find in a data center.

  • Differential Pressure Transmitters: These are often used to measure the pressure of airflow. Especially monitoring hot and cold aisles and identifying leaks or obstructions. Tek-Trol Tek-Bar 3110A DP Transmitters are equipped with an automatic temperature compensation function integrated into its advanced signal processing circuitry. This ensures high reliability and performance corresponding to change of ambient temperature.
  • Absolute Pressure Transmitters: This type of transmitter is used to measure and monitor HVAC systems, cooling systems, and fire suppression systems. They ensure performance is being maintained, pressures are being met, and the fire suppression is ready to activate if necessary. Tek-Trol Tek-Bar 3120A Absolute Pressure Transmitters feature easy installation, minimum maintenance, excellent stability, and high accuracy.
  • Temperature Transmitters: Temperature Transmitters are used to maintain or increase sustainability. This is done by identifying hot spots, prevent equipment damage, and facilitate proactive maintenance. Tek-Trol’s Tek-Temp 2100A Explosion-Proof Temperature Transmitteris a microprocessor-based high-performance transmitter. It has flexible sensor input and output, automatic compensation of ambient temperature and can configure various parameters.

Butterfly & Segmented Ball Valves

Valves can be found all throughout data centers. They are used to regulate chilled water flows either manually or with an actuator. Butterfly valves are suitable for large pipes and throttling applications. Segmented ball valves are better suited for smaller pipes or pipes with high pressure where shut-off is crucial. Valve Solutions Inc. has a variety of valves to meet your demands. This includes Butterfly Valves that range between 2” and 48”, can handle temperatures as low as -40°F and up to +600°F, and can be made from an array of materials and with a range of seats to choose from. We also now offer the new Versaflex fast-acting, modulating control valve assembly. Not only is the Versaflex high quality and reliable, our engineers have developed them to be cost-effective solutions as well.
